Our weekend was fairly uneventful. Saturday we hung around home and while Mark worked on getting the 5 hour mowing task under control, I watched him from my lawn chair with a cold glass of lemonade. LOL Okay, not really - but he wouldn't mind even if I did!
I got some things around the house in order. My first real attempt at actually "cleaning" anything since last fall. Mark does pretty well around the house - but he has a lot on his plate so, it was time for me to get my hands dirty again. Vacuuming will continue to be a task that bothers my gut for quite awhile yet. I am told once I get my stomach muscles put back where God originally placed them, I will eventually be up to all of those fun tasks and more! Late Saturday afternoon, we flicked on the TV for a few minutes while we had something to eat. The Food Network will never spawn a non-fattening idea for a meal. After tossing around all of these great ideas for supper and the grill..... we went out and ate Chinese. Wow - a little pathetic - but I worked it all out in my head once I had a crab meat rangoon in my mouth.
Sunday was another home day for the most part. We went out for breakfast for really no good reason. This place we like to go to has an awesome breakfast menu but the exchange is that they are painfully slow in delivering the food to the table. We were one of only 3 couples in the place (it was early) and we managed to read an entire Sunday paper, discuss potting soil vs real dirt and chatted about our crippled federal assistance programs.
On to some funny business! Someone has played a very clever joke on us. About 2 months ago, I planted 4 different types of flowers in a window box that is attached to a cute little shed as you drive into our driveway. They were looking lovely. About 1 month ago, I noticed the flower plant on the left side of the box was just gone. No trace of it. You could not even tell there had been a plant there - the soil was perfectly flat and without a trace of being upset in any way. I found this a little odd and asked Mark about it. He didn't have a clue.
Naturally, my curiosity nearly took over as did my amusement. I finally forgot about it all, though and made a mental note to replace it. I did this yesterday.
Just as I was about to stick my hand into the box and create a nest for my new flower, I see a sprout. WOW! Well, maybe the flower was somehow still intact underneath the soil and it was growing back. Seemed plausible to me and careful to not disturb it, I began to dig a little spot. I didn't get far though before I felt something in there. What the? I couldn't get around it so I grabbed it and pulled.
A potato. Somebody removed my flower and stuck a potato in there that was growing quite nicely! I know this was a joke since I am the one who prepares this box each spring for its colorful adornments and there is NO WAY - a potato could have been in there so perfectly and growing so beautifully.
Well now. Something else to amuse me for a time. This is a GOOD one! I have narrowed my list of potential perpetrators down to a small baseball team. I was to have had lunch today with one of my suspects but she had to cancel at the last minute. So, she is back on the list until I can find another opportunity for a casual interrogation. I don't need to know for certain who did it, however. If I can narrow it down to - oh say 3 people - I have enough radish seeds for everybody! At my earliest opportunity I will be pushing a couple radish seeds into the soil of as many of their house plants as I can find!
Funny!
