Hells BELLS!

We have been talking for awhile about getting our 2 outside cats collars with bells to give our birds at least a sporting chance at life. After all, we FEED the cats, its not like we would be handicapping their means to find food.

Today I went to Walmart to see if they had Almond butter (a healthy alternative to peanut butter which has nothing to do with this tale) and for some reason I thought of the collars. Weird. Anyway - I got two and managed to get both cats suited up when I got home with absolutely zero incident.

This afternoon, I grabbed a book and sat outside for a read. Imagine my delight as I heard the bells, before I saw the cats strolling my way! About 20 minutes later, as one naps in my lap and the other at my feet, the one at my feet bolts across the sidewalk like she was shot from a cannon. Then she starts to flop all over the yard and manages to gain the UNwelcome attention of the dogs. I run over to her and she somehow got her lower jaw in behind the collar (it must have been a little too loose) and her mouth is literally stuck open.

I had to laugh. Sorry - I did! I scooped her up to help her and she just panicked and started fighting at me like it was pay per view. I managed to get the collar free from her little lower jaw - but not before she sliced my right palm open with her back claws. It looks as though I shook hands with a butcher knife.

That collar IS in her future - but tonight - I will let her be!
