kirelimel I need to congratulate you on your lucky 8 day! When I read that yesterday, I genuinely felt so happy for you, and I have never met you! Eight pounds in one week is a very noteworthy success! I also wanted to thank you for the "white" tip. I love a good rule of thumb that is easy and easy to remember. The white tip eliminates the flour, the sugar and salad dressings just to name a few! That is helpful because I could eat all white if given the choice. I adore BREAD.
I have not weighed myself yet. I feel like I have lost a few. I believe I have identified another distinct character flaw within myself. If I weigh myself and I have lost weight, then I get kind of relaxed and in two weeks I seem to have found the same five and ten pounds all over again. So, I plan to stay off the scale for one more week at least.
suzie, I am excited you are going to give this a shot, too! I would also encourage you to use the blog as your venting vehicle because I think it has helped for me and it also keeps me "honest".
Your comment about our "minds" is SO right. We are our own worst enemies when it comes to battles of will power. I have gotten to the point I can step back and take a look at something and ask myself, "will this keep my peace?". Shopping is another place I ask this question! ;)
I had to laugh when you said that we tend to make weight loss this big event in our life and TODAY IS THE DAY I START MY DIET. Like the heavens will now part because I have a new idea for the 100th time about how to lose a few pounds! Been there done that and have the t-shirt. I guess we need to just finally get to a point where being healthy is the goal and losing weight ends up being the side effect. That seems to hold more power for me than a diet does.
We are so conditioned to make eating healthy about sacrifice, when really, it does not have to be that at all. I think the biggest key is to just change some habits and start making choices. What is that saying about "doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result" How many times to I need to "diet, lose the weight and gain it back" before I decide it is about lifestyle not diet. (or eating most of days worth of calories in one meal with the promise you will skip supper but then supper rolls around and HECK YEAH I am eating.....duh!)
So, I am keeping it simple and letting myself be hungry and I do most of my grocery shopping in the produce aisle. The old saying holds true, "Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and supper like a pauper." I go to bed hungry most nights - not because I have not eaten, but because I have eaten only what I know I need - and kept my peace. That and walking every day does so much for the overall sense of well being.
You reminded my of another saying - once in awhile you just have to eat the cookie and buy the shoes! I think if you can find the healthy mix it can all be good!
Keep us posted ladies! Thanks for joining me - the inspiration is great!!!
