What a weekend! After weeks of planning, we finally had our 15th anniversary party Saturday. I imagine we went through what most parents experience getting ready for graduation. The need to have everything perfectly manicured inside and outside is absolutely exhausting. We had a few neat things we just didn't get to on Saturday morning - but I suspect it will store nicely for the next big hoopla!
I described this weekend to a number of close friends as "worlds colliding" - but in a good way! Mark and I have grown to have such a diverse set of friends. You know the kind.... one set of friends you will go to a lovely concert or play and then follow with nice restaurant as "your night out". Yet another set of friends are perfectly happy just to take a motorcycle ride and find a good bar burger. I came to the realization that relatives are much the same way.
We took the time to invite some cousins on Mark's side that we re-connected with at a couple graduations this spring. While they are great people we clearly have NOTHING in common beyond the family tree. And this is okay! We enjoy the cordial small talk but I could tell they were feeling as much out of place here, as we felt in there mud floor machine shed with the blue tarp snapping in the wind. I love this about "people" though at the same time. I have grown to truly embrace the vast differences in people.
One other thing that struck me this weekend is how completely fascinated I was with a few friends I had not seen in awhile sporting a somewhat out-there hair color. Not to end there, I saw a few gals wearing some glasses that I have never dared dream for myself. I might be tempted to tip toe a little closer to something more daring in the near future. Love, love, loved it!
Today I plan to get some things back in order around here, return pans and roasters and hopefully I can get a couple of the pans clean enough to return to their respectful owners by Friday. I got through all of Saturday nights pans. But the ones for breakfast on Sunday for all my campers are another story. Egg bakes when overcooked turn into concrete on the inside of a metal pan. It might be worthwhile just buying a new pan for this friend and fessing up that I cannot get it clean!
Ruthie and Suzie (and Lisa if you read this blog) - great to see you Saturday! (I am still laughing about the "window blind" conundrum in the downstairs bathroom!!! REALLY!!! That was just too darn funny! ) Anyway!....The downside to big parties is that there are so many guests that we were only able to spend a few minutes here and there with everyone. But, your presence meant so much and I hope you had as much fun as we did! Mark and I feel truly blessed to have so many great people in our life and we never felt that more than we did on Saturday.
Our niece took some great pictures and I will post a few here when I get them. I saw her snapping some of the fireworks, too. I hope they turned out! For as many disagreements Mark and I had on those things I think it was a success. Minus the fact, I saw a shovel they were using for something over there while they were lighting them off. The handle has clearly been blown off. I asked Mark about it and he downplayed and since both he and Kevin appeared to have all fingers in tact....I will just let that little doggy lay.
A special thanks to Deep River Band for the great music. It was truly a perfect day and night!

Brenda - I had a terrific time reconnecting with friends and family I had not seen in awhile! It was so nice just to be able to sit and visit and see where life had taken us all. The fire works were great even though the nurse in me was slightly "concerned" at times (a few of those mysterious explosions we heard may explain the missing shovel handle). You have such a beautiful place, although I still found myself wondering on Sunday how I missed seeing those window blinds. You really know how to show folks a good time! Here's to the next 15 years!
